Climategate…
The Santa Barbara News-Press has dubbed the debate over man’s possible effects on Earth’s temperature, HeleneGate “Climategate”. According to Sunday’s top story penned by News-Press City Editor Scott Steepleton… “E-mails between scientists, obtained by computer hackers in an attack on the servers of the climate research unit at the University of East Anglia in Britain, appear to show that researchers with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change overstated the case for anthropogenic global warming.”
The story adds, “Fears over anthropogenic global warming gave Al Gore a platform after his failed presidential bid — and by some reports made him quite wealthy — and even spurred a project called lightblueline, which prophesies a climate-change-driven 22-foot rise in sea level, gobbling up a portion of Santa Barbara.”

This news has been around in the UK for a couple of weeks now, and the “scientists are making it all up” angle has already been comprehensively debunked.
The e-mails don’t “appear to show that researchers with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change overstated the case for anthropogenic global warming” - it’s just more clutching at straws by the climate change denialists

I bet Al Gore is already enroute on his greenhouse gas spewing private jet to Antartica with a payload full of flame-throwers and “hot air.” AHHHHHHHH THE GLOBAL WARMINGS ARE COMING!!!

This Belongs in the editorial section. I can imagine that conversation. Scott, its Wendy. Put something bad about global warming on the front page. Bye

Yup. No question that the self serving state of denial is out there, making as big a splash as possible.

Well, if it is in the Newspress it must be true!

This from the people who keep foisting “guest editorial writers” the accountant Terry Tyler (who supported Cushman) and Lanny Ebenstein as having their finger on the pulse of SB. This paper is even worse now than it was six months ago…and the stupid editorializing by Steepleton is just more evidence.

The mere fact that this is still a debate among scientists all around the world is proof that nobody really knows the truth about global warming. Of course, it doesn’t help credibility when one side phonies up the “facts” to promote their argument.

What would convince hippies that they have been duped their whole lives? My guess is nothing.

“The mere fact that this is still a debate among scientists …”
–Bill
The mere fact that Bill chooses to ignore the overwhelming scientific consensus is merely a fact. Good thing it’s not an important one.

Bill, there IS no debate amongst scientists and people who have studied the data, other than a few fringe efforts. 99% of scientists agree that global warming is anthrpogenic, 1% disagree…amongst the public, about 60% disagree. This is because of a willingness to believe the same kind of astroturf organisations and PR groups that worked so hard to convince us the smoking didn’t cause cancer.

SezMe, ToneFloat: You’re proving my point with your debate. Your selective statement, citing unsubstantiated facts is incorrect. There are a substantial number of qualified scientists on both sides of the debate. Care to discuss abortion or gun control?

Let’s ban the private jets of the Hollywood eco-phonies like John Travolta, U2, Coldplay, Oprah and Jennifer Aniston who fly all over the place and spew tons of pollutants into our atmosphere … attending benefits and conferences to raise money to combat pollutants being spewed into our atmosphere!! (All the while owning 5 homes each with massive heating and AC demands.) I guess the rules aren’t for Al Gore and Hollywood, they’re for the little people.

Let’s ban News-Press publisher Wendy McCaw’s 193-foot yacht Calixe, which even has a helicopter.
