Capps Celebrates Passage of Health Reform

This weekend, the House of Representatives passed a comprehensive health insurance reform Bill, the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3932). Local Congresswoman Lois Capps had this reaction…
This is a historic moment for our country, as we take a huge step forward in our effort to fix our broken health insurance system,” said Capps. “I’ve spent the better part of my life working to improve the health and well-being of my patients and I am thrilled that with this vote we are closer than ever to delivering affordable, quality health care for all of us on the Central and South Coasts. I am proud that I was able to share my experience as a nurse and public health educator to strengthen several provisions of the legislation dealing with prevention, access to affordable health insurance, securing a public health insurance option and increasing the number of health professional.”

“The pride and joy that I feel today as we move one step closer on this important journey is tempered by my disappointment that this victory for all Americans’ access to affordable, quality health insurance came at a cost,” continued Capps. “As is too often the case, women’s access to reproductive health care, specifically abortion services, were sacrificed by the adoption of the Stupak amendment. I have said it time and again but it bears repeating, comprehensive health insurance reform legislation is not the place to be re-debating federal abortion policy, nor is it the place to dramatically expand or contract access to abortion services. This victory for comprehensive health care reform is a bittersweet one. I will continue to work to see this illogical, discriminatory, and unnecessary language removed from the final legislation to ensure that comprehensive health care reform works for all Americans.”

  1. Voluntary term limits? Says:

Lois signed a pledge to run for only two terms and attacked her opponent because he didn’t sign such a pledge. Then she sat by and allowed a group from another state to run negative ads on her behalf. What a liar. She has no credibility. The sad thing is that you folks keep re-electing her. Hopefully when redistricting occurs her Ribbon of shame will disappear forever, to be replaced by someone with a college degree and qualifications beyond marrying a congress person.

  2. Reality check!! Says:

Not to mention the outright lies that this huge government run health care debacle will be “Deficit neutral.

Government running something that does not rise in cost is as funny as a fart in a lysol can.

Great job Lois!!! Can’t wait to see your next bill / co-sponsored or sponsored………

I think I have a little left in my wages not claimed by you or your socialist government friends..

It’s time for a wave of change that will usher in a new conservative opportunity society.

I urge Clark Vandeventer and Justin Tevis and any other young, articulate, conservatives to rise to the occasion and answer the call for public service…they should run in the primary so one of them can emerge a better, stronger and more agile candidate in order to run against Lois Capps in the general election…it’s long past time that we do for Lois what she refuses to do for herself, RETIRE.

No offense Lois, but it is time for a new generation of leadership to emerge from the 23rd District.

This victory came at a cost? Why should I pay for someon else’s abortion via tax dollars, when the majority of the time they come as a result of irresponsible behavior by individuals? Stop rewarding bad behavior and encourarging it! It is that simple.

The real cost of this bill is over a trillion dollars, enough to push our economy to the brink of economic collapse.

Have any of our politicians studied monetary policy as of late? Does anyone remember the part about how increasing the money supply by running the press only adds to inflation?

Lois Capps and her Free Riding minions all need a reality check. This is still America and it’s time for a citizens comeback.

It is unethical and deplorable to pass this debt off onto future generations. All this money for what? So we can have a bronze statue of Capps in D.C. as the woman who turned us into the Soviet States of America?

Not on my watch. Not as far as America is still Land of the Free.

I know Clark Vandeventer and Justin Tevis and think they are both great young men of character with strong core principles, something Rep. Capps lacks. She has been disingenuous throughout her congressional career. If Rep. Capps truly believes what she says here in this press release, “I have said it time and again but it bears repeating, comprehensive health insurance reform legislation is not the place to be re-debating federal abortion policy” then she would have honored the Hyde Amendment and not added the pro-abortion language to HR 3200. I am pro-choice but I am also pro-personal responsibility and pro-honesty, two things to which Rep. Capps is obviously opposed. No matter what their politics or philosophy I hope whoever decides to take on Rep. Capps restores integrity to the 23 District.

  8. Bill Says:

Lois Capps is a joke. The bigger joke is that we, the voters of this congressional district, keep re-electing her. We can debate her usefulness (or lack thereof) until the cows come home. The more important question is what in the world do the majority of voters see in her!?

  9. Santa Barbara since 1943 Says:

I am embarrassed by Lois and her actions. I am more embarrassed that I actually voted for her twice. She is a nice woman, but terribly out of her league in politics. She will do as told by the DNC without question.

  10. GeeWillikersWally Says:

If the Republicans had used their time more wisely while in full control , and done anything , anything at all , to address this critical issue perhaps we wouldnt be in this position now . We may end up with a bad bill and the right will share the blame for inaction and poor priorities .

  11. Go Lois! Says:

Lois forgot to point out that less children = less global warming! Abortion is important.

  12. GeeWillikersWally Says:

Those who throw the socialist tag around so freely need to think back in time a bit . Privatizing profits and socializing risk has been a Reagan / Bush specialty .for decades . The S&L scandal of the early 80’s is a case in point . It was the biggest fleecing of American taxpayers in history to that point in time . What was not ” socialist” about us pcking up the tab for that debacle which sprung its roots in the Republican fervor for dereg of financial markets ?
