Bits from a Barstool…

“What’s black and white and completely over… newspapers”, joked John Stewart.

SantaBarbara.com, Edhat, and the News-Press all reported restaurant closings this week (Stateside, Epiphany, and, Lettuce B. Frank)… none appear to be true.

Stocking stuffers… the Bottle Shop now carries mini bottles of Calvados.

Rumor Mill… a Montecito insider alleges that the romance between Wendy McCaw and Arthur Von Weisenberger is all but over. “Splitsville” he says.

Did you know… the Old Mission altar statue is reportedly the oldest statue of Saint Barbara in America?

Seen at the Independent’s holiday party… Congresswoman Lois Capps, the Palm, John Thyne III, the Blums, a top-hat-wearing Grant House, and Sammy Sosa.

We hardly nooz you… “We’re looking for contributions of $20,000 or more,” writes the publisher of Noozhawk.net, allegedly trying to keep the e-paper afloat.

According to the South Coast Energy Efficiency Partnership… it will cost $9.00 to illuminate a single Christmas tree for 30 days with 5 strands of incandescent lights, while energy-efficient LED lights would cost only $.90 over the same period.

Groundbreaking… for the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity at San Pascual.

Never been to Stateside (for some reason, it seemed standoffish and not too inviting), never been to Epiphany (didn’t see how the food could live up to the name), and liked Lettuce B. Frank more when it was the Doghouse on Milpas (cheaper food, more interesting choices like a grilled carrot hot dog, and better chili dog).

What is Nachos con Cheeseburger going to do without Wendy MacCee? Heaven forbid he get a real job. (A website about bottled water doesn’t count in my book.) Maybe it is time for him to reinvent himself again. Maybe he can go back to his old job (according to his resume) of editing a high school newspaper.

Although I frequently skim Noozhawk’s web site, I don’t feel compelled to pay $20,000 for that privilege. I think the dust is still settling in the demise of print papers and the shift to online content and a new workable paradigm hasn’t risen to the top yet.

The Stateside & Lettuce B Frank closure rumors turned out to be false.

How does a top-hat wear Mr. House?

    Very carefully, I guess.

Is that the mayor playing in the sandbox instead of managing the City’s finances?

Not to cloud your blog with facts…but it was said that Stateside is for sale, not closing. That said…I got to think it’s just a matter of time.
