Yes, Mag, Measure D is a mechanism for everyone in the County to pay, but for the benefits to be concentrated in the small Cities like Solvang, which will get way, way more money per person than Noleta will.

Noleta, of course, needs safe roads as much as Solvang does.

Only 1/2 of the Measure D money is for regional projects, which I'm sure Noletans are glad to pay.

But the other 1/2 is for local projects concentrated in cities, which I suspect Noletans would be a bit annoyed if they realized they were bankrolling.

Oh, and none dare call the SBCAG's failure to make this clear deliberate disinformation. Because, our government is always right and never lies.

Noleta is not a city; hence, its name.

That is why the unincorporated areas of the County are represented by FIVE Supervisors on SBCAG.

And the other Supervisors do not vote down the Second District Supe. The Measure D spending plan was a unanimous vote of all of SBCAG, including all five ot the Supes.

Measure D IS NOT COUNTY DOLLARS. The funds are governed by the full Association of Governments, which includes both County and each City represented.

And would not Noleta residents ride a train or drive on the freeway either north of south out of the County? Noletans do get out sometimes.
Methinks these the phosphoretic comments are deliberate disinformation.

A deeper problem... why does Measure D favor cities so much? Buellton is guaranteed money, Noleta is not. Noleta has needs at least as important as Buellton.

The reason is pure politics: Buellton has a vote on SBCAG, Noleta does not. Well, the Second District Supe in principal does, but the other Supervisors vote them down on the Measure D distribution.

Why are we funding cities with County dollars? Isn't the County short of bucks compared to the cities? The structure of Measure D is deeply, deeply flawed.

The question in the blog post was about whether the claim or insinuation that Measure D would be a sales tax of 8%.

The first answer or comment here obviously the answer to the question asked, that the anti-D advertising is misleading.

The second comment here is a Rovian distraction about how much of an increase is the portion of the sales tax currently allocated to Measure D efforts. Armendariz indeed knows, condescendingly because he is no IMA, how to perform a simple math calculation. But that was not the initial question.

A bigger issue is why does Armendariz frequently have a direct conflict of interest between his job for the Taxpayers Association versus his duty and his other job to represent the people of Carpinteria on that City Council.

Armendariz has admitted during a public forum on October 14th that he abstained from voting on the Council about whether to support or not the Council position on Measure D for the upcoming election. He further noted during that forum that he had to wait until after his bosses at the Taxpayers Association told him what to think before he did his other conflicting job as a Council Member allegedly representing the people of Carpinteria.

Joe: whom do you really work for?
Is your judgement impaired?
